Tim Cook Ceo Of Apple

Tim Cook Ceo Of Apple Image
Apple has just announced that they will be holding an early morning conference call tomorrow, Monday March 19, at 6am PDT, 9am EDT to discuss Apple's cash balance. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, has said he's "not religious" about holding onto to money, and Apple has repeatedly said they're patient and aren't letting their enormous cash hoard burn a hole in their collective pockets.

Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, and Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's CFO, will host a conference call to announce the outcome of the Company's discussions concerning its cash balance. Apple will not be providing an update on the current quarter nor will any topics be discussed other than cash.

Apple's been racing towards 100 billion in cash recently, with no slowdown in sight. Some have called for a dividend for shareholders or a stock buy back, while others have hoped for larger scale purchases.

iMore's own Chris Umiastowski has been hoping for a cash return for a while::

I, for one, would love to see Apple return some of the cash to shareholders. When one quarter of your valuation is tied up in cash it doesn't maximize value. Apple earns some interest income on the cash, but interest rates are excessively low these days and if they paid out the cash it wouldn't put much of a dent in their earnings. So paying out the cash unlocks value, which is why shareholders are so interested in seeing something materialize. 2012 looks like the year when something will finally happen.

That was following last quarter, where Apple hit 97.6 billion in cash reserves, 46.33 billion in revenue, 37 million iPhones sold, and 15.4 million in iPads sold. Recently, Apple's even hit 600 a share. Indeed, Chris is in the camp that believes Apple could become the world's first trillion dollar company.

If anyone wants to get their best guesses in, do it now before the bell rings on the call tomorrow.

You Ll Have To Shake The iPhone

You Ll Have To Shake The iPhone Image
Man, imagine how happy the iPhone world was when Sega announced that its popular platformer Super Monkey Ball was coming to the device. With its built-in accelerometer, guiding the sphere down a slippery slope should've been an absolute dream. Instead, it's an aggravating mess. Monkey Ball's biggest problem is how inconsistent it is when it comes to response time. On occasion only the slightest movement will send the ball flying off in the opposite direction whereas others you'll have to shake the iPhone like your life depends on it to even move an inch. While this is fine on the earlier levels, and even a little satisfying, when it's time to truly test your skills it's almost impossible to progress. If you have the patience of a saint and can find a way around Monkey Ball's foibles you'll be able to get some enjoyment out of it but we'd highly suggest not even bothering. Unless, that is, you like being enraged.

Verizon iPhone

Verizon iPhone Image
At the WWDC 2011 Keynote, the enigmatic iCloud was finally unveiled to all attending the keynote conference. Steve Jobs climbed back on stage to reveal the iCloud.

He said, "I'm going to talk about iCloud. We've been working on this for some time now, and I'm really excited about it."

What exactly is iCloud? Well, iCloud is a way to "seamlessly integrated into your apps, so you can access your content on all your device"

Before talking about the iCloud, Steve began by recalling how many years ago the PC was becoming the digital hub for one's digital life. Digital photos, digital videos, music. It worked for the better part of 10 years. But it has broken down in the past few years.

"iCloud stores your content in the cloud and wirelessly pushes it to all your device. It automatically uploads it, stores it, and pushes it to all your devices."

Since it is integrated with all your apps, everything happens automatically. The iCloud can also work on the MobileMe apps since they have been re-written from the "ground up".

The contacts that are added in any device are pushed to the cloud and then sync'd down to all the other devices.

The calendars work the same way-one can make a new calendar, edit it, and it is all pushed to the cloud. Calendar sharing is now added as well.

"Mail was in the best shape of all, but it's even better." Get an @me.com account and all your messages are sync'd and pushed across.

Steve Jobs also confirmed that there are no ads. He said, "We build products that we use too, and we just don't want ads."

With iCloud, you will be able to store all you content so it is always accessible from your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, or PC. It will give you almost instant access to your music, apps, latest photos, and more. Furthermore it will also keep your email, contacts, and calendars up to date across all your devices. There is no syncing required. And no management required. "In fact, no anything required. iCloud does it all for you.

"iCloud will be free! And it is launching in developer beta today!

Vitaminwater Application Downloads Over 250 000 Times In Two Weeks

Vitaminwater Application Downloads Over 250 000 Times In Two Weeks Image
WE MIX THE VITAMINS, YOU MIX THE BEATS: Vitaminwater-branded Sound Lab application featuring hip-hop superstar 50 Cent was downloaded more than 250,000 times in the first two weeks after its induction. The application lets fans download and remix the artist's newest single "Baby By Me." A mobile advertising campaign pushed 50's Sound Lab application to No. 1 in the Top Free Music applications in the App Store.

"We met with vitaminwater in the summer and they were very keen on using music as a vehicle to reach their base," said Jon Vlassapulos, CEO of Moderati Inc., San Francisco. "They're forward-thinking and they like the Romplr platform, which gelled with their overall consumer base.

"Coca-Cola's Energy Brands thought an iPhone app would be an appealing natural extension of their relationship with 50 Cent, who is a founding partner of the vitaminwater brand, and it also dovetailed with the release of his new album," he said. Brands can get extra value out of endorsement deals via mobile. Energy Brands, also doing business as Glac'eau, is a privately owned subsidiary of Coca-Cola based in Whitestone, NY, that manufactures and distributes various lines of enhanced water such as vitaminwater. Rap artist Curtis Jackson-known as 50 Cent-obtained a 10 percent share of the company as part of an endorsement deal.

This application reinforced vitaminwater's brand objective of getting out the message that its product has vitamins in it with the tagline "We mix the vitamins, you mix the beats."The application came out the same day as the record, and it was a perfect storm where Apple picked it up, fans liked it and it shot to No. 1 after a few days in the App Store.

SUCCESSFUL APP MARKETING

In addition to the download tally, which is approaching 300,000, user engagement figures included close to 1 million remixes uploaded to the companion site at http://www.50soundlab.com.

In addition, the application drove conversions-more than 64,000 downloads of 50 Cent's latest single "Baby By Me." In-application purchases of mobile content are a growing trend to look out for in 2010.

The Sound Lab remix platform lets fans interact with music by creating their own versions of tracks by their favorite artists, thereby becoming part of the creative process themselves. The 50's Sound Lab application gives fans access to the key elements of the original recording and provides creative tools to connect with and personalize the new single. In addition to being able to remix the new single, 50 Cent is giving one fan a chance to show off their skills and travel with a friend to meet the artist in New York City.

Once all of the vitaminwater remixes have been uploaded, 50 Cent will scout out the best remix of his latest single and invite that person to meet with him. Users can record and share their personal mixes via Facebook, email or on the online interactive music companion site at http://www.50soundlab.com.

Apple Software Update

Apple Software Update Image
If you just got your new iPad, you're going to want to set it up and get it working just as quickly and effectively as possible. With iCloud you can do that right on your iPad, with no computer or cables involved. If you prefer the old-school approach, you can also set up your new iPad using iTunes on your Mac or Windows PC.

For most people, most of the time, we recommend iCloud, but we'll walk you through both of them below.

HOW TO SETUP YOUR NEW IPAD

When you turn on your new iPad, you'll be greeted with a Lock screen that simply says "iPad". That's where we start.

Note: None of the default choices pre-checked for you. You can't simply keep hitting Next to speed through. You have to look at the choices and tap one to check it before the Next button will even activate. Apple is forcing you to pay more attention than is often required on the web or in apps.

* Swipe to UNLOCK.
* Choose your LANGUAGE. Your iPad will show you the most common languages for the area in which you bought it, but you can tap the DOWNWARD ARROW ICON to see all the choices. Tap the blue ARROW BUTTON to continue.
* Choose you COUNTRY OR REGION. Again, your iPad will show you the region where you bought your iPad, but you can tap **Show more* for additional options. Tap the blue NEXT BUTTON to continue.
* Choose whether you want to globally enable or disable LOCATION SERVICES. Location Services use GPS, cell-tower triangulation, and Wi-Fi router mapping to determine the approximate location of your iPad. This feature is used for turn-by-turn navigation (like Navigon, check-in games (like FourSquare), social networks (like Facebook), geo-tagging (like in the Camera app), and utilities (like Find my iPad, etc. Unless you have a particular need to globally disable it, you'll want to turn on the Location Services feature at this point. You can change your mind or selectively disable or enable these services later on in the Settings app (e.g., turn off your Camera app's geo-tagging, but leave on TomTom's turn-by-turn navigation). Tap the blue NEXT BUTTON to continue.
* Choose your WI-FI network. Even if you're on 3G or LTE, your iPad wants Wi-Fi because there may be a lot of data to move around and blasting through your data cap on setup is no fun. Enter your network password and tap the blue NEXT BUTTON to continue.
* Wait for Apple to activate your iPad. This could take a few minutes.
* Choose if you want to setup your iPad as new, restore from iCloud backup, or restore from an iTunes backup on a PC. Tap the blue NEXT BUTTON to continue.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR NEW IPAD AS A NEW IPAD (CLEAN INSTALL)

To set up your iPad as new (basically like doing a first or clean install of your computer):

* Choose whether you want to SIGN IN WITH YOUR APPLE ID or CREATE A FREE APPLE ID. If you're not sure what that is, and don't know if you already have one, it can be any of the following: iTunes Store account,, me.com email account, Apple developer account, FaceTime or iMessage account
* If this is the first time you've ever used an Apple product or service or just want a new one, you can create an Apple ID.
* Enter your APPLE ID to login. (Enter your full email address as the username.) Tap the blue NEXT BUTTON to continue. (If you change your mind, you can logout of iCloud, or login under a different account later.)
* Agree to the TERMS AND CONDITIONS of service by tapping the blue AGREE BUTTON on the bottom left.
* Confirm your agreement by tapping the AGREE button.
* Choose if you want SETUP ICLOUD. If you're not sure, choose to setup iCloud. The basic service is free and makes your iPad infinitely more usable. USE ICLOUD.
* Choose if you to use ICLOUD BACKUP. Again, you really, really do. It keeps all your data safely backed up and let you restore or easily switch to a new or additional iOS devices later. USE ICLOUD BACKUP.
* Choose if you want to use FIND MY IPAD. Also free, also incredibly useful to track down your iPad if you ever lose it or have it stolen. If in doubt, USE FIND MY IPAD.
* Choose if you want to automatically send DIAGNOSTICS to Apple. It's anonymous and helps make Apple make better products, but if you're uncomfortable with the idea, choose DON'T SEND.
* Wait while ICLOUD IS SETUP.
* Start using your iPad!

HOW TO RESTORE YOUR NEW IPAD FROM AN ICLOUD BACKUP

For the smoothest experience and longest battery life, we always recommend setting your new iPad up as new (see above). If you have an old iPad or other iOS device, and need access to your old data quickly, or dread the idea of starting from scratch again, you have the option of simply restoring your new iPad from a backup of your old device.

* Choose RESTORE FROM ICLOUD BACKUP.
* Choose your "backup"*. You'll see your LATEST IPAD BACKUP listed, and this is usually the one you want to choose. You'll also see older backups, if available, and if no iPad backup is available, backups of your other iOS devices on the same iCloud account.

A progress bar will show you an approximation of how long it will take to download your backup. Once it's done, your iPad will reboot.

Once your iPad reboots, you'll be asked to re-enter all your passwords (as a security measure, iCloud will not restore passwords).

Once that's done, your iPad will start re-downloading all your apps. If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, it will also re-download iTunes music, movies, TV shows, and iBooks. will restart, all your settings nicely back where you left them, and iTunes will begin to re-download all the apps you had installed when the backup was made.

You will need to stay on Wi-Fi for any file larger than 50MB to re-download.

HOW TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE ON YOUR NEW IPAD

Depending on when you buy your new iPad, there may be software updates available. Small updates might simply fix bugs and improve performance (for example, iOS 5.0.1). Medium updates might add a few new features or support new devices (for example, iOS 5.1 released in March of 2012 with the new iPad). Large updates might add significant new features (for example, iOS 5, released in October 2011 with the iPhone 4S).

If a software update is available for your new iPad, a popup notification will let you know, and a red badge will appear at the top righthand corner of your Settings app. If you connect your iPad to iTunes on the Mac or Windows, iTunes will also popup a notification to let you know when there's a software update waiting.

Just like setting up your new iPad, you can either do software updates directly on your device, over-the-air (OTA) or by plugging into iTunes on your PC.

OTA on-device updates are faster and more convenient since your iPad will only download the changes and update in place, so once it's done and rebooted, you're good to go.

iTunes updates backup your iPad, download the entire software install from Apple (typically over 500MB), replace the entire operating system, then restore from backup.

MORE NEW IPAD HOW-TOS

Setting up your new iPad is only the beginning. You still need to get apps and games, books, TV shows, and movies, set up your email, get iMessage and FaceTime up and running, and much much more. iMore has tips, tricks, and how-tos for all of them.

The Original iPhone Came Out

The Original iPhone Came Out Image
Ever since the original iPhone came out, the smartphone's battery has always been the subject of a debate, and even a few lawsuits since the phone's introduction back in June 2007. Anyway, taking into consideration that the battery of the iPhone, regardless of its generation, is not easily replaceable and also due to the reason that lithium-ion batteries sooner or later degrade, it is crucial that you the most out of the battery of your smartphone while it lasts.

Apple has said on numerous occasions that after no less than 400 recharge cycles, the battery will still be able to retain 80% of its original power, but real life tests have shown that Apple has always been optimistic when it came down to the longevity of the iPhone's battery.

The main aspect that you should keep in mind when you are trying to maximize the battery life of your iPhone is that the less you use the phone, the longer the life of the battery will be. As a consequence, if you are one of those users that constantly check their e-mails, surfs the Internet, listens to music and makes calls, the battery of your phone will be depleted much faster. In addition, keep in mind that there are several background processes which will drain the battery faster. Some examples of such processes include keyboard clicks, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You have to think about whether you really must have the Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi on at all times. If the answer to this question is no, then make sure that you turn these off in order to preserve precious juice and only turn these features on when you really need them.

In the following paragraphs, we will offer some tips that you should take into consideration for improving the battery life of your iPhone, but even so you probably won't be able to extend it to the 250 hours of standby time claimed by Apple. What you will probably get is about a 20-25% improvement in the life of the battery which isn't half bad. The first tip that we would like to offer is to change the e-mail autochecking from every 15 hours to at least one hour, unless you are an extremely busy person and you get a lot of e-mails very frequently. In order to do this, you must go to Settings and click on Mail. Now you have to click on Auto Check and then select the interval that you desire, or you might want to turn off the e-mail auto checking feature to preserve battery even further. Another tip that we can give you concerns the Wi-Fi connection. As we said before, if you do not need a constant Wi-Fi connection, you should turn it off as Wi-Fi really drains a lot of the iPhone's battery. Wi-Fi should be on only when you really need it. For turning it off you have to go to Settings and then click on Wi-Fi, and after that tap the Off button.

One last tip that we can give you in this first part of the article is about turning off Bluetooth when you do not need it. To do this you'll have to go into the Settings menu, click on General, Select Bluetooth and after that select Off. Join us for the second part of the article where we share other tips.

The Oldest iPhone Tested

The Oldest iPhone Tested Image
Android may be the most popular mobile browser, having today overtaken Opera, but when it comes to HTML5 performance, it looks like iOS is king. This at least according to a new report from spaceport.io, which claims to be the "first-ever report on the technology's performance on top smartphone and tablet platforms".

And it's about time. With Facebook and major carriers and OEMs backing it, HTML5 has been gaining ground as a viable technology to support rich mobile apps on many of today's most popular platforms. Interestingly, many had surmised that HTML5 might throw a wrench in Apple's quest to become the dominant mobile platform, but spaceport's "PerfMarks report" showed that iOS devices and browsers (iPhone, iPad, and Safari) outperformed its Android competitors across the board when it came to rendering movement on-screen.

Spaceport is looking to add to the HTML5 consortium's movement to establish a series of objective benchmarks for judging HTML5 game performance across mobile operating systems in hopes of creating industry standards and giving developers a reliable litmus for performance across platforms. The company tested each device's ability to support HTML5 games by analyzing image movement capabilities, first and foremost, measuring the number of moving images on a screen at 30 frames per second -- a comparable rate to the native experience.

Spaceport found that iOS devices like the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 scored very high, handling over 200 moving objects and over 300 moving objects, respectively. And to that point, the iPad 2 ranked as the top device for HTML5 games and apps performance, beating out all Android devices across the board.

According to the report, only the Android Galaxy Nexus was able to maintain more than one moving object on the screen (an average of about 100 images), while all other Android phones, like the Droid 2, for example, struggled to handle a single image at 30 frames-per-second. Unfortunately for Android, phones like the Droid 2 ranked below even the oldest iPhone tested, the 3GS, which handled 53 moving objects at 30 FPS.

What's more, in spite of the powerful hardware many Android tablets are running, most performed poorly, although "the Galaxy Tab and Asus Eee Pad Transformer performed moderately well, but only with certain animation techniques, like css3dbackground and css2dimg."

In all, the report concluded that both of the latest iterations of the two platforms, iOS 5.0 and Android 4.0 have "registered massive improvements," 100 percent increases each, in image-movement capabilities since their last versions. And the bright side for Android, the report noted, is that Ice Cream Sandwich has made it a "much more viable environment for HTML5 development," while Android 3.0 devices? Not so much.

"HTML5 is getting faster over time, as seen in the latest OS updates across Android and iOS. Although this is a welcome trend, there is still a long way to go," says spaceport.io founder Ben Savage.

For more, check out spaceport.io at home here and find the hosted report here.

Frank M Fazio Purchased His iPhone 4s

Frank M Fazio Purchased His iPhone 4s Image
A class action suit has been raised against Apple claiming Siri does not appear to work as advertised. Siri was launched as a key feature of the iPhone 4S however it has always carried the tag of beta software. This has not deterred a New York man from suing Apple for false advertising over Siri's capabilities. Frank M.Fazio purchased his iPhone 4S back in November and is now part of a class of people who feel mislead by Apple.
In many of Apple's television advertisements, individuals are shown using Siri to make appointments, find restaurants, and even learn the guitar chords to classic rock songs or how to tie a tie. In the commercials, all of these tasks are done with ease with the assistance of the iPhone 4S's Siri feature, a represented functionality contrary to the actual operating results and performance of Siri.
The case claims that Siri is much less responsive than shown in the advertisements even though Apple issues a disclaimer stating that the service's sequences were shortened for advertising purposes. The lawsuit asks for unspecified damages and claims Siri is "at best, a work-in-progress". Isn't that the same thing as a beta?

iPhone Is Actually Going To Bring

iPhone Is Actually Going To Bring Image
The camera module on iPhone 4S / iPhone 5 may be supplied by Largan Precision. The camera module, which has been rumored to be of 8 megapixel, holds a strong possibility of being given to Apple by Largan Precision.

Among the slew of other rumors concerning the next generation iPhone, we know that it is going to come bearing minor design improvements, larger screen and an A5 dual-core processor.

This rumor however, comes from Digitimes which has a rather uncertain track record when it comes to making predictions about Apple's devices. The publication says:

Taiwan-based Largan Precision currently sees 8-megapixel phone-use lens modules account for nearly 10% of its total lens module shipment volume, but it may see 8-megapixel modules replace 5-megapixel ones to become the mainstream for smartphones in the third quarter of 2011 due to possible orders from Apple, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

The interesting thing to note here is that Largan Precision already supplies the 5 megapixel iPhone 4 camera module and iPad 2 lens to Apple. According to our analysis, it seems logical for Apple to continue with a supplier that has met the quality and functionality criterion the company has laid out for its devices.

Whereas some reports have gone as far as to hint at a 12.6 megapixel camera for iPhone 5, it remains to be seen what the next iPhone is actually going to bring with it.

Nevertheless, we'll bring you all the updates on the next generation iPhone, as soon as they come in.

A tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is now currently available for the original iPad and the iPhone 4, and earlier model iPhones. (If you have an iPhone 4S or iPad 2, don't attempt to update to iOS 5.1 and jailbreak, it won't work.)

As always, unlockers that rely on ultrasn0w are going to want to stay away unless you use a custom IPSW to install iOS 5.1 in order to preserve your baseband.

If you are an iPhone 3GS user with an old boot room, congratulations. You can have an untethered jailbreak now on iOS 5.1. All other devices will be tethered.

I typically recommend staying away from tethered jailbreaks unless you absolutely have to. Given the fact that iOS 5.1 didn't bring too many features to the table, I'd probably stay on iOS 5.0.1 until an untethered version is released and upgrading at that time.

And I can't say this enough times: if you have an iPhone 4S or iPad 2, this does NOT apply to you.

You've been warned. If you're still convinced you need your iOS 5.1 jailbreak now, you can pick up redsn0w 0.9.10b6 via our download links below. It's available for both Mac and Windows users.

You've just gotten the new iPad, and now that it's in your hands and you just can't wait to see see what your favorite videos look like on that high density Retina display. In other words just can't wait to load it up with all kinds of content including movies, TV shows, and music. All of the above are available in the iTunes Store directly from your iPad.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND WATCH A MOVIE OR TV SHOW

In most countries, iTunes has a great selection of movies and TV shows to choose from that you can either purchase or rent straight from your iPad, no computer needed. Follow these steps to download or rent a movie directly from your iPad.
