The iPhone Dev Team has updated their blog with a post that gives Ultrasn0w users tips on how to fix any problems that some users are having.

"It looks like version 0.9 of ultrasn0w fixed up the vast majority of any problems people were seeing with the 3G/3GS carrier unlock. But here's a brief list of fixes for anyone still seeing problems:

* Unusual battery depletion is almost always caused by people choosing to "Restore from backup"instead of "Setup as new iPhone" when iTunes asks you. This isn't caused by either the jailbreak or the unlock, but it's a common 3.0 snafu. The fix is to just re-run the official 3.0 restore and choose "Setup as new" this time. Your music and apps and all that will still be synced, but you'll get rid of any conflicting wifi, bluetooth, or carrier settings. Then just re-run redsn0w and install ultrasn0w.
* Remember, ultrasn0w works with hacktivated phones too, but don't outsmart redsn0w into thinking you don't need hacktivation! If you don't plan on using an official sim, don't activate via iTunes with such a sim. Just keep your unofficial sim at all times and let redsn0w and ultrasn0w handle hacktivation :)
* T-Mobile in the USA doesn't use the 3G frequencies that the iPhones support, so turn off 3G in Settings->General->Network. (Some T-Mobile territories gracefully hand down to Edge mode, but most do not).
* Certain unofficial plans have limitations on whether you can make calls and use data at the same time. That's not unlock-related..."

iPhone Free iTunes Download How To For Windows Xp

iTunes for Windows XP is a specific version of the free digital media player offered through Apple. iTunes plays and organizes digital music and video files. iTunes is also an interface to manage iPod players as well as the iPhone.

Here's how to download iTunes for Windows XP:

1. Go to the iTunes download section at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download. Click the blue "Download Now" button on the left side of the page.

2. For Internet Explorer

When using IE, and you download iTunes for Windows XP (or any other new software such iPod software) a new bar will appear at the top of the window that says "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked the site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options..." Click this bar and select "Download the File". Then click "Save" within the new popup window. Pick the folder where you want to download the iTunes file.

3. For Mozilla

If you are using Mozilla with Windows XP, after you click to download iTunes, a popup window will appear and you'll click "Save File". Choose the folder you want to download iTunes.

4. If you have not yet installed iTunes for Windows XP and you click on any links leading to the iTunes Store, you'll see a message that says "This page cannot be displayed." A pop-up bar will appear near the top of the screen that says you need to install ActiveX Control. Click the information bar and select ActiveX Control. A pop-up security warning will appear, click "Install"

iPhone Dev Team iOS 4 3 Doesnt Fix Untethered Jailbreak

The iOS 4.3.3 software update Apple recently released does not fix the untethered jailbreak exploit used in iPhone hacker, i0n1c's jailbreak. This has been confirmed by iPhone Dev Team member @comex. This means that users can still jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 untethered, although no iOS 4.3.3 jailbreak is out yet because the iPhone hackers will need to update their jailbreak software to support it.

Jailbreak users can expect redsn0w or some other jailbreak software to be updated to support iOS 4.3.3 in the near future. As of right now jailbreak users can still jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 using the current version of redsn0w, but the jailbreak is tethered which means they will need to keep jailbreaking every time they reboot their iOS device.

If you are a jailbreak user our advice is not to jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 until an untethered iOS 4.3.3 jailbreak is released!

The Next iPhone Will Soon Follow

With the new iPad Apple started bringing its mobile devices to 4G LTE networks, and some code in iOS 5.1 indicates that the next iPhone will soon follow. There some code strings in iOS 5.1 that point to 4G LTE in relation to phone and FaceTime calls.

The new code, found by iDownloadBlog, shows what would be a toggle in Settings for enabling or disabling 4G on an iOS device. That alone would be expected because of the new iPad. However, there's other code for warning users when enabling or disabling the 4G radio in the device.

The strings of code reads:

"4G ON CALL CANCEL" = "Cancel";

"4G ON CALL OK DISABLE" = "Disable";

"4G ON CALL OK ENABLE" = "Enable";

"4G ON CALL WARNING DISABLE" = "Disabling 4G will end your phone call. Are you sure you want to disable 4G?";

"4G ON CALL WARNING ENABLE" = "Enabling 4G will end your phone call. Are you sure you want to enable 4G?";

"4G ON FACETIME 4G WARNING DISABLE" = "Disabling 4G will end FaceTime. Are you sure you want to disable 4G?";

"4G ON FACETIME WIFI WARNING DISABLE" = "Disabling 4G may end FaceTime. Are you sure you want to disable 4G?";

"4G TEXT" = "Using 4G loads data faster, but may decrease battery life.";

This code shows that Apple is at least testing an iPhone with 4G. There's no other reason the warnings would show that enabling or disabling 4G would end a phone call.

The phone call warnings also give more evidence to the rumors of a Qualcomm World LTE radio inside iPhone 5. With that chip the next iPhone will use 4G for both voice and data.

Switching on/off the 4G radio would certainly cut off a phone call if the phone put voice over 4G.

The FaceTime strings are also quite interesting, and seem to indicate FaceTime over 4G. The codes show warnings that turning off 4G will end a FaceTime call, or that it is a possibility. The first string for FaceTime is for a call taking place entirely on 4G, while the second is for a FaceTime call switching between 4G and Wi-Fi.

When Steve Jobs first introduced FaceTime on the iPhone 4, he mentioned that it would remain Wi-Fi only for 2010. Now, in 2012 with 4G LTE networks we may finally be able to use FaceTime outside of Wi-Fi networks.

Though given how fast new iPad users are going through 4G data limits, FaceTime over 4G might cause more problems than it's worth. Unless Apple finds a way to make it use less mobile data.
