Rogers Vs Bell Vs Telus Which 4g Lte New iPad Should Canadians Get

Rogers Vs Bell Vs Telus Which 4g Lte New iPad Should Canadians Get Image
Provided you've settled on color and storage capacity, In the U.S., you've only got two choices if you're hunting for an LTE-enabled new iPad. In Canada, things are a bit more complicated. During Apple's event yesterday, Rogers, Bell, and TELUS, the big three service providers up here in Canada, featured prominently. Two LTE models would be launched to make sure every able carrier would be able to offer LTE, though there's lots of 3G compatibility for elsewhere, too. The new iPad lands in Canada on March 16, and no doubt many are wondering which carrier they should go with for data service. We've chewed through the plans and coverage, and have a fairly definitive answer.

There are two caveats, mind you. For one, we don't have a lot of data on speed comparisons. You'll want to ask around to see who's offering better speeds in your area. Secondly, we're assuming that The Big Three won't be switching up their iPad plans before launch day, which is entirely possible. The new iPad is big enough that there could be promotions across the board, so make sure to double-check before committing.

LTE AVAILABILITY

In Canada, those LTE centres are still fairly limited, which actually makes your pick of carriers for the new iPad a lot easier. Bell and TELUS share their LTE network, so coverage will be fairly interchangable between them. They've got LTE in Toronto and the surrounding area, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Yellowknife, Quebec City, and smaller regions like Belleville, Cambridge, Waterloo, Guelph, Hamilton, Dartmouth and London. By comparison, Rogers only covers Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa. Rogers did recently expand to St. John's, Newfoundland, and they're expecting to cover Halifax in the next couple of months, but on the whole, Bell and TELUS have a distinct edge on coverage. It's also worth noting that Bell and TELUS are supporting dual-cell HSPA+, which means you might still be able to get up to 42 Mbps outside of LTE areas. What about pricing?

PRICING PLANS

This is where things diverage a little bit. Bell's flex plan starts at 5/month for 10 MB, which gets bumped up to 15/month for 250 MB if you go over, which is in turn bumped to 35/month for 5 GB, and then charging 0.15/MB after that. TELUS has a similar structure, but has two additional tiers - 10 for 100 MB, and 20 for 500 MB. That's way better, considering it's a steep change from paying 15 and 35 on any given month. TELUS also has static plans available that aren't on Bell. For 35/month, you can get 2 GB, and for 60/month, you can get 6 GB. Why would you get these instead of Flex plans? I have no idea. TELUS also lets you split your smartphone data bucket with your iPad for free if you're already a customer, which is a pretty sweet deal, considering Bell charges 10/month for the privilege.

Rogers offers similar fixed and flex plans. For 15/month, you get 250 MB, and for 35/month, you get 5 GB, which is way better than TELUS's stand-alone static tablet plans. The Flex plans for Rogers iPads are a little weird, since they've kindly bundled in all of the taxes in with the fees; I guess they're worried about getting dinged by the CRTC for misleading prices like Bell did in June. For 6.93/month, you get 10 MB, which is bumped up to 16.93/month for up to 250 MB if you go over, 21.93/month for 500 MB after that, and 36.93 for 5 GB and 0.02/MB after that. So the flex pricing on Rogers is pretty much identical to TELUS, except for the different 10 tier has been bumped up to 25 for a bit more data. Rogers also offers shareable data add-ons for smartphones that are separate from their usual offerings (though no more expensive); you get 1 GB across both devices for 30/month, 3 GB for 45/month, and 60/month for 6 GB. The sneaky part here is that it looks like you wouldn't be able to access LTE if you opt for the bottom-tier plan, which is downright dirty. Bell and TELUS don't mention anything about this, so I can only hope that they aren't doing anything similar.

With all of that said, I would have to side with TELUS if I was buying one of the new iPads with LTE. They've got the broadest national coverage, the best spread in flex rates and free sharing of data with smartphones. Obviously, if you're in St. John's, you'll pretty much be forced to go with Rogers, but for everyone else in Canada, it should be a pretty clear decision.

Apple Is Targeting Their End Users

Apple Is Targeting Their End Users Image
As the patent battle between Samsung and Apple continues to drag on, Apple claims that they had tried to settle out of court between July and September 2010, before this whole hooplah started. This is important, because it would indicate that Samsung was fully aware of the patents it was infringing upon. The court filing where Apple claims these previous negotiations reads:

On or about August 4, 2010, Apple representatives met with Samsung in Korea and showed a presentation titled 'Samsung's Use of Apple Patents in Smartphones.' This presentation emphasized Samsung's copying of the iPhone and identified two of the patents-in-suit (the '002 and '381 patents), giving Samsung actual notice of at least these patents, and many more.

On or about August 26, 2010, Apple sent Samsung an electronic archive file containing claim charts further illustrating Samsung's infringement of Apple patents. A presentationdocument that accompanied these claim charts identified the '002 and '381 patents as two patents that Samsung products infringed, and it substantiated these allegations with text from the patents and photographs of Samsung devices illustrating infringing functionality. Apple later presented these slides to Samsung at a meeting in Cupertino, California on or about September 9, 2010.

The disagreements between Samsung and Apple span design to 3G, and even the slide to unlock paradigm. Even as some of these complaints are resolved, there's no doubt that these two wireless giants will be grappling for months (if not years) to come.

It's also interesting given the comments made by Steve Jobs in his official biography, where he said he considered Android "grand theft" of iPhone ideas

"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's billion in the bank, to right this wrong," Jobs said. "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

Jobs reportedly told then Google CEO and former Apple board member, Eric Schmidt:

"I don't want your money. If you offer me billion, I won't want it. I've got plenty of money. I want you to stop using our ideas in Android, that's all I want."

So if Apple tried to negotiate, it likely wasn't for money but for Samsung (and other Android manufacturers) to stop using what he considered "Apple ideas". While Microsoft has been successful in getting Android manufacturers to pay them licensing fees, and they might have been amenable to working out a similar deal with Apple, simply removing functionality from their products could have been a deal-breaker.

Essentially, Microsoft seems content with merely making Android more expensive, while Apple wan't to make it less usable. Both want to make it less attractive, but Microsoft is targeting vendors, Apple is targeting their end users.

It's hard to see the negotiations getting settled if those were the terms.

The Next Generation iPhone Will Actually Be Called

The Next Generation iPhone Will Actually Be Called Image
Everyone anxiously awaits the iPhone 5 release, and while there's no news on that, a report claims that the next generation iPhone will actually be called iPhone 4S and not the iPhone 5.

While we're probably months away from the next generation iPhone release, this claim comes from Jefferies analyst Peter Misek who makes this claim after running industry checks.

He also said that the iPhone 4S releaase will not bring any substantial differences or complete redesign to the next generation iPhone. iPhone 4S changes were listed to be minor cosmetic changes, the previously confirmed A5 dual-core processor, possibly an 8 megapixel camera and HSPA+ support.

The reason given for iPhone 4S release is that Apple wanted to incorporate 4G chipsets which support high speed networks in the next generation iPhone and because those chipsets are not available on time, Apple is just pushing out a minor refresh of the iPhone 4.

Earlier reports have suggested that the iPhone 5 will be completely redesigned with a larger screen. That yet remains to be seen.

Keep checking back on Sizlopedia as we'll definitely report once we hear more about the next generation iPhone.

iPhone Still Isn T Adjusting By Itself

iPhone Still Isn T Adjusting By Itself Image
If you're having issues with the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, or earpiece speaker on your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G, the proximity sensor cable may just be the actual culprit. Luckily, a proximity sensor cable is inexpensive and relatively easy to replace.

SYMPTOMS

* Your earpiece speaker cuts in and out or you can't hear unless you have speakerphone activated (this can also be caused by a broken earpiece speaker)

* Your ambient light sensor doesn't work - in other words, even if you have auto-brightness enabled your iPhone still isn't adjusting by itself given different lighting scenarios

* Your proximity sensor isn't working - this is the sensor that turns your screen off when in range of your face so you don't hit buttons while on a call

DISCLAIMER: As with any repair, iMore nor PXLFIX can be held responsible for any damage you may do to your device. It's also worth considering that opening up your device to perform any repair or modification can and will void your Apple warranty. If you don't feel comfortable opening your device, don't. Use extreme care and caution when performing a repair on "any" device.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR A DIY PROXIMITY SENSOR CABLE REPLACEMENT

PXLFIX recommends using only quality and genuine parts from a reputable supplier like eTech Parts. They have quality parts, tools, and much more for all your repair needs.

* A sad iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS

* A replacement proximity sensor cable - iPhone 3G & 3GS prox sensor cable - As a side note, some parts suppliers may refer to this part as an "induction flex cable". So if you can't find a proximity sensor cable, try looking for an induction flex cable. They are one in the same.

* A #00 Phillips screwdriver

* A suction cup

* A plastic pry tool or spudger

This repair will be performed in exactly the same manner regardless whether you have an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS.

POWER OFF YOUR IPHONE

Before performing any repair or removing any screws or parts, always power off your device.

REMOVE THE DOCK CONNECTOR SCREWS

Using your #00 Phillips screwdriver, remove the 2 screws located on each side of the dock connector.

REMOVE THE DIGITIZER & LCD ASSEMBLY

"This part can be a bit tricky so please do this with extreme care so you don't tear any cables during the process."

The easiest way to remove the digitizer assembly is by using a suction cup.

* Position the suction cup on the screen directly above the home button.

* Using your other hand, hold down the frame while gently pulling up on the suction cup.

* The goal is to get the bottom of the digitizer loose. Do not pull directly up. There are 3 cables attached in the top right of your iPhone. You do not want to tear these. Just pull up until the bottom of the assembly pops out.

* After you have the bottom up you can remove the suction cup.

REMOVE THE CABLES THAT ATTACH THE DIGITIZER ASSEMBLY TO THE LOGIC BOARD:

Once you have the bottom of your digitizer assembly popped up we can remove the cables attaching it to the logic board.

* Gently lift up your digitizer enough to have a clear view of the 3 cables in the top right of your iPhone.

* With your plastic spudger or pry tool, you'll need to pry up the first two cables that attach the digitizer and LCD. They should be labeled with orange stickers numbered 1 and 2. Simply pop them off the logic board gently.

* Underneath these cables you'll see one other labeled as cable 3. This one is a bit trickier as it is clipped down. You'll need to gently pop up the clasp holding it into the fastener. It is a tiny white clip. Simply pop it upwards and the number 3 cable should then slide right out.

* Remove the digitizer LCD assembly.

At this point you can set the body of your iPhone aside and flip over the front screen assembly, which is what we'll be removing and replacing the proximity sensor cable on.

REMOVE THE LCD ASSEMBLY

This step is optional and not required but I recommend it. Removing the LCD will allow you to get a better view of the induction flex you'll need to remove. It'll also give you more room to maneuver your pry tool around. If you don't remove the LCD, make sure you don't apply any pressure to it when removing the induction flex and speaker assembly.

* There are 6 screws holding the LCD in place. They are all the same size. Three on the left side of the frame, 2 on the right side of the frame, and 1 on the top right holding down the induction flex. Remove all 6 screws with your #00 Phillips screwdriver and set them aside.

* Next use your pry tool to slowly work the LCD out of the old assembly on the left and right sides. It should come out fairly easily. Just take special care not to scratch it while removing it. The LCD and back plate will remove in one piece as they are glued together.

REMOVE THE BAD PROXIMITY SENSOR CABLE

We will need to remove the proximity sensor cable from the front assembly in order to put in the new one.

* Use your #00 screwdriver to remove the one screw in the top right that's holding down the flex cable and your LCD. (If you removed your LCD, you will have already removed this screw.)

* Next, use your pry tool or spudger tool to gently pry the cable on the right side. You don't want to try and pry it all the way off as it is still clipped on at the top. We just want to loosen it.

* Next take the pointed end of your spudger (or you can use another plastic pointed object if you don't have a spudger) and pry up the 2 clips at the top holding the cable down. It should now easily lift from the assembly to reveal your earpiece speaker.

REPLACE THE PROXIMITY SENSOR CABLE

You'll notice that the proximity sensor cable is attached with some adhesive to the metal clip that holds it in place. To remove it, gently peel the cable off the metal clip. You'll notice dotted lines that are printed onto the cable to assist you in lining it up correctly when placing the new one onto the clip. If you need to, you may apply more adhesive. Your replacement cable may have come with adhesive pre-installed already.

REASSEMBLE YOUR IPHONE

Once you've replaced the proximity sensor cable, you'll just need to reassemble your iPhone by following these directions in exact reverse order. You can also watch the video above as it contains re-assembly instructions as well. As a side tip, take care to snap in the induction flex cable carefully. There's a clip towards the bottom you'll need to make sure snaps in all the way or you'll have issues putting the assembly back together.

AND DONE!

That's it! You probably saved quite a bit compared to what it would cost to buy a new iPhone. While the cable name may sound scary, the process to fix it wasn't that bad, now was it?

If you do run into problems, make sure to check out our DIY and mod forums below. If you don't feel comfortable opening your device on your own, you can always contact PXLFIX about mail-in repairs as well.

The iPhone Is Held Vertically

The iPhone Is Held Vertically Image
The worlds top Belgian beer; Stella Artois has launched an augmented-reality bar guide application called "Le Bar Guide". "Le Bar Guide" is a free 3D Augmented-Reality iPhone application that lets consumers search using geo-tracking for bars nearby via ZIP, Postal code, country or user rating. The simple premise of the new application is to enable Stella Artois to promote all bars that serve Stella Artois.

Le Bar Guide fuses the real-world view of the consumer's immediate surroundings in augmented reality, providing a guide to bar locations. When the iPhone is held vertically, Le Bar Guide shows profiles of bars in the consumer's immediate vicinity. The profiles are overlaid on the street view from their location. Consumers can hold the phone with the camera pointing at the ground and the application will show arrows pointing the consumer in the direction of nearby bars.

This social application also importantly features user-generated content. Consumers can rate bars according to the menu, atmosphere, other clients and the service. The application also has a section for comments about locations for other Le Bar Guide users.

The application currently has more than 50,000 bars listed worldwide. Bar data comes from a Stella Artois Web service that provides geo-location information on all the bars that serve Stella in the U.S. and worldwide.

The Le Bar Guide'S handy "Le Taxi" feature even sources numbers for Taxi services from a local country directory.

Using the iPhone is also perfect for Stella's target of affluent males between the ages of 25-35. Adding Augmented Reality, the overlay of images on the real world via a device's camera, adds a heighten experience and a more intuitive user interface. Moreover, "Stella Artois chose this technology because they believe over the next three-to-four years augmented reality will be the primary delivery mechanism for location-based services. This is where the users are."

Android Dev Phone

Android Dev Phone Image
Motorolas Xyboard, one of many Android tablets to come to market in the past few months. "Photo: Ariel Zambelich/Wired"

Already skirting the edge of irrelevance, Android tablets are at risk of being completely overwhelmed by Apple's new iPad.

The most successful "pure" Android tablet line, Samsung's extensive Galaxy Tab series, holds a pitiful worldwide tablet market share of about 6 percent -- and this is across four different Galaxy form factors. Amazon and Barnes Noble are doing comparatively better with their tablets, but these devices aren't branded as Android products. Instead, Google's operating system simply runs in the background, providing OS support for Amazon and BN wrappers.

To date, tablet manufacturers that openly celebrate the Android name -- think Samsung, Sony and Asus -- have touted hardware superiority. In other words, if you want 4G data speeds, cutting-edge CPUs, and superior displays, you'll have to join Team Android. Or so the story has been told.

But now with the arrival of the new iPad, replete with fully modernized specs that neutralize the hardware advantages of the biggest, snazziest Android tablets, it's all the more apparent that Google's tablet strategy is more vulnerable than ever before.

One analyst even issued an apocalyptic proclamation: "Android has no hope as a 'branded' tablet OS in the U.S.," Forrester's Sarah Rotman Epps told "Wired".

So how can Google and friends make a compelling case for customers to choose Android tablets over the iPad? Here are three avenues that Google might consider to keep Android tablets -- or at least some of them -- alive and kicking.

DOMINATE THE LOW END

At this point, it's glaringly obvious that Apple has the high end of the tablet market cornered. At 500 for the lowest-priced new iPad and up to 830 for the top of the line model, it takes more than chump change to pick one up.

And yet early sales estimates show that Apple's new iPad is already a huge success. The Verge reported Apple's Fifth Avenue flagship store sold 13,000 iPads in the first 12 hours of the tablet's release. Apple itself has stated that pre-order demand before the tablet's debut was "off the charts," with more than 3 million new iPads sold in the first weekend of the device's release.

Needless to say, people are willing to shell out major green for Apple's new slate.

Android tablet makers are pushing similar high-end models, but alas, buyers aren't flocking to the devices. Google stumbled right out of the gate with the Motorola Xoom, which was priced at 600 for the cheapest version -- a hundred bucks more expensive than the cheapest iPad. The Xoom, as well as countless other high-end Android tablets, have not sold well.

But Amazon seems to have found the right approach: If you can't beat 'em, undercut 'em.

Amazon's Kindle Fire went on sale last November, quickly securing a spot as one of Amazon's fastest-selling products ever. The draw to consumers hasn't been raw specs and features, as the Fire is a mere 7-inch device that doesn't include any cameras, and offers limited on-board storage. Nor have apps been a Kindle Fire draw, as Amazon's Appstore offers a mere fraction of apps compared to Apple's veritably endless buffet.

No, for Amazon, it's all about the price. The Fire launched with a loss-leading 200 price tag -- significantly lower than the 400 to 500 price tags of branded, 10-inch Android tablets. And the Fire has destroyed its Android brethren in terms of market share, capturing 16 percent of the still nascent tablet landscape, and selling more units in a matter of weeks than other manufacturers managed to sell over the course of a year.

Google may be watching carefully, and reevaluating its options in the wake of Amazon's success. Last week, rumors circulated around a 150 Android tablet that would be manufactured by Asus and serve as Google's next Nexus device.

Nexus devices, of course, are close collaborative efforts between Google and a partner manufacturer. In the past, they've always emerged as flagship smartphones that show off all the bells and whistles of a new version of Android. If Google can nail its next Android software iteration on a Nexus tablet (as opposed to a smartphone), it could convince consumers that Google takes tablets seriously.

"To cultivate more mass appeal for Android as an OS, there should probably be more synergy between the OS (or the content) and the hardware," NPD analyst Benjamin Arnold told "Wired" in an email. "The Nook and Fire were successful for a number of reasons, a major one being the content was tightly aligned with the device."

Androids on Instagram. Hopefully, well see the reverse soon enough. "Photo: Mike Isaac/Wired"

SCORE KILLER APP EXCLUSIVES

There's nothing worse than feeling left out. Sadly, until Google can do a better job of convincing app developers to code for Android first, it will be hard for Android tablet users to feel they're using the latest, greatest, coolest software.

Take Instagram. It's one of the hottest iOS-exclusive apps to hit the platform to date, currently boasting an installed base of close to 30 million users globally. It's a breakaway success, with little sign of slowing. Yes, Instagram is coming to Android soon, CEO Kevin Systrom says. But after how long and how many Android users' pleas?

"Google could really lend a helping hand to developers and work with them to get the most out of what the platform has to offer," Andreas Schobel, CTO of cross-platform note-taking mobile app Catch, told "Wired". "It's all about the apps."

Industry players have tried to lend Google a helping hand in propping up the Android app effort. NVidia boasts the Tegra Zone app inside the Google Play store; it essentially acts as a portal to Nvidia's own cache of games optimized for the Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 CPUs. And wireless carriers have also tried luring developers with their own branded app markets, such as Verizon's V-Cast App store and ATT's App Center.

But Google doesn't need a plethora of fragmented Android app stores to excite customers. These sundry outlets can easily create confusion, doing more harm than good.

What Google needs to do is borrow a trick from Apple, and make Google Play -- it's just-launched effort to consolidate apps, music, video and books -- into a piece of lucrative real estate. Being featured on Apple's App Store promises a hefty boost in downloads, so if Google can direct millions of eyeballs to its Google Play storefront -- like Apple has done with iTunes -- developers will fight to get on Google's radar.

For even more power, Google needs the one-two punch of finding the next killer app, and featuring it on the latest Android tablet. "You get one of these releases to coincide with a big hardware release, and that would definitely get consumers thinking," says NPD's Arnold. "Maybe a special release of an "Angry Birds"."

How does Google find the next "Angry Birds"? It needs to put a full-court press on the developer community, engaging devs and promoting best practices. Google has already taken some initiative here -- partnering with MIT to create better tools for developers, launching the Android Design web site to more explicitly enunciate best coding practices, and even starting a series of Android university classes around the world to enroll more programmers into Google's third-party developer ranks. But there's always more to be done.

WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, BACK ANOTHER HORSE

Kenny Rogers said it best: "You got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em." So maybe it's time for Google to walk away (or even run) from Android tablets. Android tablets with a capital "A," that is.

"Android can be successful as an underlying platform for companies like Amazon and Barnes Noble in the US, but not as a branded platform," Forrester analyst Sarah Rotman Epps told "Wired". Instead, she says, original equipment manufacturers like Toshiba, Dell and HTC will adopt a Microsoft-based plan, pushing out Windows-based slates when Windows 8 finally drops this year.

Could Android do well enough for Google as a back-end platform that supports Amazon's and Barnes and Noble's custom user interfaces? Google's search engine is still the default for the Fire's Silk browser, as well as Barnes and Noble's Nook, which means Google still makes ad revenue on all those served queries. Does it matter, then, that Android is virtually unrecognizable on the tablets?

As much as it may irk hard-at-work Googlers responsible for Android's looks, the answer is probably no. Ceding the high end of the tablet market to concentrate on low-end devices like the Fire and the Nook makes a certain amount of sense. Yes, you'll give other OEMs an opportunity to jump into bed with Microsoft, but there's no proof that the Redmond giant has the chops to take on iOS in tablet form.

Doubling down on cheap, already popular tablets by devoting more resources to getting Fire and Nook-ready apps in the market could pay off in the long run. Devoting the rest of the company's efforts to phones and the Google Play market, and you've got the makings of a robust Android ecosystem.

iPhone Has Been Officially Activated Through iTunes

iPhone Has Been Officially Activated Through iTunes Image
Over the past number of days the unlocking aspect of the jailbreak community has been hopping with potential unlockers being introduced to a new method of iPhone unlocking using a procedure that takes advantage of Sam Bingner's Subscriber Artificial Module or SAM. On top of this, now the latest GEVEY Ultra 5.1 now supports the GSM iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 with modem firmwares up to 04.12.01. The update to the GEVEY Ultra SIM is going to be welcome news for thousands of users who currently rely on a hardware based unlock for their iPhone 4. The GEVEY SIM has been updated to include some additional enhancements. With this type of unlock a jailbreak is a pre-requisite as is making sure that your iPhone has been officially activated through iTunes before you use the GEVEY Ultra. The updated GEVEY Ultra is available currently as a pre order item from the Apple N Berry website, comes with support for the GSM iPhone 4 on iOS version 4.1 right up to the very latest iOS 5.1. It also provides a hardware based unlock for basebands up to 04.12.01. This newly designed chipset doesn't require any cutting to fit perfectly into the iPhone 4 and it offers longer device battery life thanks to the design changes. The manufacturers are also saying that it will give improved reception, better signal strength, consistent voice calls and a better all round data connection. The availability of the GEVEY Ultra 5.1 comes just after the unlock method that uses the SAM package from Cydia which allows any jailbroken iPhone on any firmware to be unlocked. This could mean that the GEVEY priced at 49.99 could suffer in popularity.

Camera Samples From New iPad Show Marked Improvement But How Could They Not

Camera Samples From New iPad Show Marked Improvement But How Could They Not Image
The camera quality on the iPad 2 didn't really impress anybody, but some sample shots from the new iPad have surfaced, and show a definite improvement in quality. These pictures were taken on the new iPad unboxed in Vietnam yesterday, which also gave us benchmarks revealing processor and memory specs.

The camera in the new iPad weighs in at 5 megapixels, but otherwise uses the same optics as the iPhone 4S, which as many of you know, are really good. That said, the 0.3 megapixel shooter on the iPad 2 never really stood much of a chance. While you aren't likely to be using the new iPad as a gigantic, unwieldy point-and-shoot camera on a day-to-day basis, it's great that the few times you do need to use the camera, it won't let you down. Obviously we'll have our own hands-on time with the new iPad this Friday, but until then, the camera is shaping up to be pretty nice.

Those of you upgrading to the new iPad - will the improved quality of the camera increase how often you use it? Do you often take pictures or video with your current iPad? There are a few more samples below.

Retaining the quality of your iPhone battery will save you a fair amount of money in the long run, so I would like to take a moment and offer some tips and advice on iPhone battery care and how you can optimize the life and charge of your battery to enable you to keep that cash in your pocket for as long as possible.

Step 1 Retaining the quality of your iPhone battery will save you a fair amount of money in the long run, so I would like to take a moment and offer some tips and advice on iPhone battery care and how you can optimize the life and charge of your battery to enable you to keep that cash in your pocket for as long as possible.

So the first thing to mention for iPhone battery care would be a proper charge cycle, a correctly maintained iPhone battery can retain up to 80% of it's full capacity for 400 full charge and discharge cycles, therefore it is important to not overcharge, or undercharge the battery whenever possible. Allowing your iPhone's battery to run completely flat once in a while is great, but at other times allow it to run as low as possible before charging it again, and when you do charge try to achieve the maximum charge replacing full life back into the battery.

Step 2 Achieve the maximum ability from your battery - this will not only help you monitor the life of the battery, but also take us back to tip one and ensure a good charge cycle is in operation. For example an iPhone 3G genuine battery will offer you 12 hours of talk time, 10 hours of video viewing, 9 hours of Wi-Fi use or 30 hours of audio playback from a full charge, try to be aware of how your iPhone is being used and how the battery is standing up to the task - also bearing I mind that standby time is somewhere around the 300 hour mark.

Allow the battery to breathe - if you are charging your battery in some carrying cases they tend to generate excessive heat which can affect the capacity of your battery, if you are aware that your iPhone is becoming warm during it's charge remove it from it's case prior to commencing the charge. The ideal temperature for your iPhone and it's battery is between 32 and 95 Fahrenheit. Also when charging from a USB to a computer ensure that the computer is switched on, a sleeping or turned off computer can cause the iPhone battery to drain which will disturb your charging cycle and degrade the battery.

Step 3 And one last pointer, is try to generate regular use from your phone, the lithium-based batteries perform better when the electrons are kept active inside, and make sure that whatever happens with your charging the iPhone battery receives your full care by giving it a minimum of one full charge (100% of the battery life) per month.

These iPhone battery care tips have been provided by iPhonePartsPro - your one stop shop online for all iPhone spares, and parts for home repair and maintenance, they also stock a great variety of genuine iPhone batteries for all models and should not be underestimated when you are seeking a quality service.
