If you’ve got an iPhone you’ve probably got most, if not all, of your digital music is stored on it and you can enjoy it pretty much anywhere you go – as long as you’re wearing your headphones. What about when you’re in the car? It’s not safe to drive with two earphones in and it can get really uncomfortable on long journeys. There is another option. An iPhone FM Transmitter. Since they were made legal in 2006 FM transmitters are a great way to listen to music from your phone through your Hi-Fi or car stereo. Apple iPad Or iPhone Hd Can I Afford And Do I Need Both

There is perhaps one question that is lingering on the minds of a lot of Apple fans and consumers around the globe these days; can i afford and do i need both the Apple iPad and the coming iPhone HD/iPhone 4? The Apple iPad has been out for about two months now in the US, but for many other international consumers their first chance to get their hands on the new “digital revolution” came this Friday that passed, with early UK reports that sales have been strong with retailers, including Apple iPad atPC World and Currys that got a reseller deal with Apple. The question on my mind though, is how many of us are actually sitting on the fence for now awaiting the likely announcement of the 4th generation iPhone 4/iPhone HD on June 7th as Steve Jobs takes centerstage at the WWDC 2010? I would assume that it is not an ideal situation for Apple that the international launch of the Apple iPad comes so close to the much awaited upgrade of the iPhone, which if we are to believe in the rumours, is likely to become available to consumers worldwide towards end of June. Whether you are a current iPhone 3GS owner like me that still has 6-8 months left of the contract and will likely have to pay an early upgrade charge for the new iPhone HD, or have been sitting on the fence waiting for the new iPhone before making the investment, finding the money to get both the Apple iPad and the new iPhone HD in the same month is likely a stretch for most of us. Assuming that the new 4th generation iPhone will cost around the same as the iPhone 3GS with a contract, we are looking at having to shell out $160-460 depending on the model on top of the contract, and the Apple iPad starts at $649. So if i was to buy both now in June/July i would be looking at a one off cost of at least $940 or so to get both products. That would seriously digg into my holiday budget and holiday plans, and do i really need both products? Personally i have been sitting on the fence in terms of the Apple iPad as i currently find that between my iPhone and my laptop i cover my needs in terms of work/entertainment. Would i like to have an iPad? yes. But do i need one? not really. I would rather get my early upgrade to the 4th generation iPhone if it lives up to the rumours and the expectations of the market in terms of upgraded features. I can definitely see the potential of the Apple iPad for the professional market, but for now i’ll continue to get my entertainment in the more traditional forms of the television, my laptop, and my hopefully new iPhone HD at the end of June.

Drivers Risk Lives Using Mobile Phones

One in 20 motorists is risking their life by using a hand-held mobile phone while driving, safety experts have claimed. The Road Safety Authority (RSA) said an observational study also revealed motorists in Cork city were twice as likely to be seen with a mobile in their hand, with one in 10 offenders spotted. RSA's Noel Brett launched a new safety campaign and appealed for road users to be aware of the risks associated with using a phone while driving. "The results of this study are extremely worrying, particularly when we know that you are four times more likely to crash if you use a hand-held mobile phone while driving," said Mr Brett. "We also know that the results understate the true extent of the problem as the study did not capture those texting while driving or those using a hands-free kit. "In fact, research tells us that using a hands-free mobile phone is no safer than using a hand-held mobile phone while driving." Mobile phone use while driving became a penalty point offence in September 2006 and is now the second highest penalty point offence in Ireland after speeding. A total of 93,525 offences have been recorded - including 16,000 in the year up to August 30. The RSA is targeting drivers with a radio ad warning them to 'Switch Off, Before You Drive Off'. Garda Assistant Commissioner John Twomey said it is unsafe and illegal to use a hand-held mobile phone while driving. "If caught, a driver must pay a fixed charge notice of 60 euro and will incur two penalty points. If a driver does not pay the fixed charge and is convicted in court, four penalty points and a fine of up to 2,000 euro will be applied," he warned. The RSA study was conducted in December 2009 at 45 locations in seven counties across Ireland. Of 33,949 drivers observed, 1,964 were using a hand-held mobile phone while driving, representing over 1 in 20 drivers (6%).

Fm Transmitters A Good Option For iPod Integration But Are There Better

If you want to take your music on the road with you, your iPod is the best and most convenient option. But how do you connect it to your vehicle? Which method is best? And what options do you have? You have many options depending on your car and stereo equipment you have installed, there are a variety of ways of connecting your iPod to your Vehicle. The Kits range from fully integrated connections that emulate your CD changer providing CD quality or better audio through your stereo, through to FM Transmitters that connect to your iPod and transmit radio signals to your aerial. The truth is there are thousands of options and a variety of different brands that offer slightly different functions. The more basic of the options start with FM Transmitters; they are a simple kit but can provide good results. FM Transmitters plug into the bottom of the iPod / iPhone and translate your music being played on your iPod to a radio signal, The radio signal is then broadcast to the local area (Anybody using the same frequency can listen to your music / podcast etc). The FM Transmitters are usually the more cost effective option when purchasing an iPod car kit, however bear in mind the area you live in or commute to before you purchase. If the area is heavy with radio signals you can often receive a poor signal, usually resulting interference or a duplicate signal played over the top of the original frequency so you have two sources of audio being played. There are several advantages and disadvantages to the fm transmitter kits, these can be broken down simply see below; Advantages: - They are Easy to install - More cost effective - Move from vehicle to vehicle Disadvantages: - Occasionally has poor signal - Can't control the iPod from vehicles controls or radio - Drains the iPod / iPhone battery The next best option is the FM Modulator; the modulator works on a similar principle to the transmitter however FM Modulation kit provides a better performance over all. The modulator is a hard wired connection to the back of the aerial replacing your previous aerial which connects further in the loop. This system reduces the interference from outside broadcasts meaning you receive a signal quality similar to that of DAB (Digital radio). FM Modulator kits are also provided with power clips that allow you to crimp onto the stereos power cable to provide kit with battery power from the ignition switch. This powers the kit and the iPod when the ignition is turned on so you'll never lose battery charge while connected and your iPod is good to go again. Although the Modulator provides better performance than the transmitter it still doesn't offer the ability to control the iPod through the stereo of steering wheel controls, which is a major factor for a lot of people when purchasing an iPod car kit. The most advanced option is hard wired option. The Dension Gateway 100 is a good example of this. The hardwired kit connects into the CD changer port on the back of the stereo and emulates the factory changer. These kits are a little more expensive however in many people's opinion they are worth the extra investment. The majority of hardwired kits allow the user control the iPod from steering wheel or stereo, charge the ipod, offer text display on the vehicle display or cluster screen and provide perfect CD quality audio through the factory speakers. When ordering an iPod car kit it's important to consider what functions you want from it. If you only want a simple kit that provides decent quality audio, and you're prepared to put up with a little interference every now and then, the FM Transmitter is probably the better option for you. However if you love your music and want an all singing & Dancing kit you should be prepared to spend a little extra money. An iPod transmitter is a good option for an iPod car kit connection. However if your looking for a more advanced iPod car kit solution you should look for an integrated iPod kit.

How Not To Use Tomtom On Your iPhone

OK, I’ve seen some pretty odd ways of using mobile phone’s over the years, but this one really made me chuckle. As you’ve probably heard, you can now get TomTom Sat Nav on your iPhone, and the whole world seem to be going crazy about it. Quite a few bloggers are reviewing the new software and posting video’s of it being used – which is great, after all $90 is a lot to spend on a software download if it’s no good, but I really think some people need to plan ahead when it comes to creating a video review. This morning I stumbled on this iPhone TomTom video review on YouTube which shows off how easy the software is to use. They then take it for a spin in the car and demonstrate brilliantly how not to mount your iPhone in the car. Sellotaping your iPhone to the dash might be a quick fix, but just think of the mess that’s going to be left on his phone and dashboard when he’s done. Silly really, when for less than $22 he could have got himself an iPhone Sat Nav Pack that includes a rotating windscreen holder and car charger. On the subject of iPhone holders, I’ve noticed that people seem to think that you have to use sat nav on the iPhone in landscape mode. As most phone holders for the iPhone 3G and 3GS are portrait, I’m guessing this is why people are resorting to sellotaping their phones to the dashboard, but what you may not realise is that Sat Nav works perfectly well in portrait mode too – in fact I prefer it. It means you don’t have to keep rotating the phone if a call or text message comes through and I find that you get a clearer view of what’s coming up on the road ahead. Admittedly, there’s not much in it, but do you really need to see all the side roads that you’re not going to be driving down? Easiest option of course is to just get yourself a rotating holder so that you can use your phone which ever way you want. Apple has now officially announced and presented the world with the Apple iPhone 4 at the WWDC 2010 and we have had a look at all the iPhone 4 features; what is new and what has been delivered as expected based on all the rumours that we have kept you up to date on in this article. Latest news and rumours - iPhone 4 parts caught on videoToday we came across two videos posted on iPhone Portugal blog that appear to be videos of parts for the iPhone 4G / iPhone HD. According to the site they purchased the frames from China, so we are not talking about another “lost” iPhone 4 prototype like the one that Gizmodo got their hands on a while back. Since we are talking about frames for the iPhone 4 it is difficult to say if we are talking about the real deal on these videos, but the similarity with the earlier prototype leads many experts around the web to lean towards this being the real deal. You can see the iPhone 4 frame videos here. iPhone 4 ready for shipment According to the latest rumours the 4th generation iPhone HD is being prepared for shipment in June, with an expected 24 million units to ship in 2010. The same sources also talks about a 4th gen iPhone HD with double the RAM to 512mb and a 960x640 screen resolution. Improved battery life is also expected as the screen is made thinner to provide more space for a larger battery. It is also rumoured that the 4th generation iPhone HD will be made available with a white front panel, another first for the iPhone that until has only been available with a white back panel. Images of prototype iPhone 4th generation Someone was lucky enough to stumble across what seems so far to be a genuine iPhone 4th generation prototype, featuring a new and interesting design, a forward facing camera as well as an improved regular camera with LED Flash, and a smaller screen with a much improved resolution. So why do so many believe this is the genuine thing(R) Well, it has got a distinct Apple finish to it, and it is packed with components marked with Apple. It is expected that the iPhone 4G will be cheaper to operate to both secure increased penetration in mature markets in the US and UK, as well as seeking to increase penetration in the important markets in the east, including the Chinese market. Video calling coming to iPhone 4G The new iPhone 3.2 SDK has been dissected and some of the findings indicate that Apple is preparing future devices, including the iPhone 4G for possible video calling. The icons and information found in the new SDK are good news for all those that have been longing for video calling and video chatting capabilities on their favourite Apple gadgets, including the iPhone and the new Apple iPad. Again, these are just findings and who knows when compatible devices will be made available, but it is a good sign at least. References to iPhone 4G found in 3.2 SDK According to recent revelations by Engadget, there are references to a device with the code N89, which is believed to be the 4th generation iPhone 4G, in the recently released iPhone 3.2 SDK and the firmware 3.1.3 upgrade that has come in the wake of the Apple iPad launch. Earlier versions of the iPhone has been referenced as N82 and N88. At the moment this rumour does not reveal anything new about the features and technical specs of the iPhone 4G itself, but it possibly confirms what is expected to be a mid-year launch of what Steve Jobs have referred to as a “Grade A+ upgrade” for the iPhone. The same firmware upgrade also had references to what is believed to be the 4th generation iPod Touch G4 with code name N80. iPhone 4G to feature Apple A4 chip In the aftermath of the Apple iPad launch there has been many rumours that the iPhone 4G will receive the same fast Apple A4 chip that was revelaed in the iPad. If this is the case it should based on reports significantly increase the speed of the iPhone as well as potentially improve battery life, both of which is very welcomed improvements from the iPhone community. Magic Mouse touch sensitive casing According to a Goldman Sachs analyst the iPhone 4G will have a Magic Mouse like casing, meaning the device will have a new plastic touch-sensitive casing. There are many that believe that after 3 years the iPhone is ready for a more extensive design upgrade, although we do believe that Apple will not be looking to change the iPhone too much. Then again Apple is known for pushing the boundaries for design and usability, usually in a positive direction, so it will be very interesting to see what they might do with the coming iPhone 4G in terms of design upgrades. We believe that we could at least expect to see a slimmer and ligher iPhone 4G. Release date for iPhone 4G It is rumoured that the iPhone 4G could see a release as early as May or June this year, while it is still expected that the unit will be officially announced at the WWDC this coming summer, just like the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS was announced around that time, and we know that Apple likes to stick to their upgrade schedule. Doubled battery life, OLED screen, and dual core processor With more competitors launching in the last few months, not to mention recently with the Google Nexus One, it is expected that Apple will be including a better OLED based screen with a higher resolution on the iPhone 4G. The current iPhone 3GS features a 320x480 display, while it is becoming more and more common for smartphones/superphones to feature 480x800 displays. Putting a dual core processor into the iPhone 4G would also improve processing speed, and allow for more efficient use and process handling, something that again could result in improved battery life, which is an issue with the current iPhone models. It is rumoured that the device might have double the battery life of the current iPhone, and possibly even a replaceable battery, although we don’t quite believe it until we see it knowing Apple’s track record in that area. 5 megapixel camera, LED flash, and video calling An improved camera is pretty much given for the iPhone 4G as the current models are some way behind many of the competitors in that area already. With the rumors that the iPhone 4G will feature a 5 megapixel camera, same as the Google Nexus One, comes also the rumours that it will feature LED flash following news that Apple is looking to buy a lot of LED flash camera components. Perhaps even more interesting are the rumours that it will not only feature an improved 5 megapixel camera, but that it will also get a forward facing camera for video calling, possibly a camera similar to what is currently used on the 5th generation iPod Nano. Video calling is big in the Asian market, an area where the iPhone has serious competition from amongst other Samsung. Multitasking with background app processing This is a feature that many were expecting with the launch of the iPhone 3GS but that just did not happen. Now the topic has resurfaced with rumors that Apple has finally been able to crack the issue and will be able to at least offer limited multitasking for selected apps and features. The importance of multitasking for iPhone 4G can amongst other be seen by how the Palm Pre has been focusing on this feature in their advertising, targeting the iPhone especially.

Bad news for those Apple fans who have been eagerly awaiting the white version of the latest iPhone. The iPhone has been selling really well since its release. It has also helped make Apple reach the number two spot when it came to the highest number of phones shipped this year alone. Those who would like to have the Apple iPhone 4 in white will apparently have to wait until spring next year, which is a lot more waiting time than they would have hoped for. The white iPhone 4 was supposed to be unveiled back then in June, but Apple postponed it until the end of July. Come the end of July, it was rumored that Apple wouldn’t show the device until later this year so Apple fans had to wait some more. Now as reported above, Apple will reportedly unveil the white iPhone 4 early next year. Next year is only two months away, but these two months will seem even longer for those who are eagerly awaiting their white iPhone 4. According to several sources, Apple can’t seem to handle the high demand for the phone, which is why the brand is rather concentrating on the usual Apple iPhone 4 phones rather than manufacturing new color versions. Others are saying that this is just Apple’s way of creating a certain hype and curiosity surrounding its product, which also proves to be the fact when it comes to Apple. The Language Buddy Iphone App Makes Remembering Foreign Languages

Independent developer Buddy Bergman today released version 1.0 of a new app called The Language Buddy that provides a simple interface to enter in a word or short phrase in your native language along with a Romanized “sounds like” spelling for another language. Add that you can also assign photos and audio clips The Language Buddy provides an easy way for you to manage new words and phrases as you make your travels to far off or local lands. If you find yourself taking a vacation to a far off land and you don’t have time to learn the their language by heart then this app does the next best thing. You can enter in words in your native language, typically English, but it can be any language, and you also enter in the foreign language Romanized “sounds like” spelling. Now you have an easy way to reference that word again in the future. Plus, you can assign pictures and audio clips to those entries! Lets say you are in South Korea and you go to a restaurant. You want to remember the name of the food you ate so you open up the Language Buddy and take a picture of your meal and enter the name of it plus take a picture and record an audio clip of how to properly pronounce that dish. Now you have reference to that picture anytime you think back wondering what it was that you had that one time.

Navigon iPhone Holder And Car Charger Review

iPhone Car Holders are a must have item – especially if you use your iPhone for Sat Nav. I’ve already covered some of the most popular mounting solutions for the iPhone in my post on Using Sat Nav on the iPhone, but this week I came across the Navigon iPhone Holder and Car charger and thought it was worth reviewing. Navigon were one of the first software companies to launch a Sat Nav application for the iPhone and it often features in the top ten apps in iTunes. The Navigon Car holder is designed to compliment their software and provide you with a simple and effective in car holder. Features There’s not really a lot you can say about a phone holder, after all, it is just a holder. Unlike the TomTom iPhone Car Kit, the Navigon car holder doesn’t have a GPS receiver or loud speaker built in, but there are a couple of features that make this one stand out. Firstly there’s a discrete cable holder built in to the underneath of the arm. While this might not sound that great, it does mean that once your cable is clipped into it you won’t have to fish around between the seats to find the end of your charging cable when you want to charge your iPhone. The cradle for the iPhone has a ball joint fitting so that allows you to rotate it through 360° - nothing new, but what I did like with the Navigon holder is that it’s the only car holder that I’ve seen that lets you tighten up the ball joint when it starts to come loose (although the allen key needed isn’t included). Design As holders go, it’s slim and it’s not bad to look at, although from the images on the box I did expect it to be a little slimmer than it is, although it’s by no means bulky. The cradle allows you to slide your iPhone in and out quickly and easily and it can be done with one hand, you just pull your phone forward slightly and lift it out. There’s no spring clip to keep your phone in place, but given the shape of the cradle I really can’t see that it would ever fall out. In the Box Navigon are rather generous. Instead of just including a generic third party car charger, they’ve partnered with Belkin to include the Belkin Micro Auto Charger + Charge Sync Cable. This is one of the most compact car chargers available for the iPhone and can be left in your cigarette socket even when not being used – just remove the USB cable and it will look like a standard USB Port in your dashboard. Why choose the Navigon iPhone Holder? The Navigon iPhone holder is a solid, sturdy holder that will work brilliantly with your iPhone and any Sat Nav App. The suction pad is strong and the built in cable holder is a nice touch – although it would have been even better if you could connect the cable to the base of the cradle so that it connected each time you put your phone in.

Hasbro Plans 3d Goggles For Your Iphone

If you’ve ever wanted to view 3D content on your iPhone or iPod touch, Hasbro has you covered. The toy-maker has just unveiled its newest creation, My3D, a pair of 3D glasses with a slot for an iPhone or iPod touch. It promises to deliver 3D content and 360-degree gaming. The Associated Press reports that the device is expected to retail for $30 and will be available in the spring. As CNET notes, the device has the appearance of a View-Master, but it’s targeted at both kids and adults. The AP reports that Hasbro was “guided by Apple during the development” of the product; 3D devices and add-ons have a lot of potential, but in the home setting, it becomes a question of available and valuable content. According to the AP, Hasbro says it is working with Dreamworks Animation to develop material. Dreamworks Animation has a number of successful 3D animated hits under its belt — including the recently released Megamind. Hasbro also says it will use content from 3D TV networks like the Discovery Channel and other content from Sony and IMAX. Other partnerships include the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, where 3D travel experiences are being created. The appeal for movie and television studios seems pretty clear — this is a way to promote upcoming 3D content in theaters or give users a taste of 3D entertainment at home. The bigger question, however, is if there is enough of a lure for consumers to purchase this sort of content and device — and just as importantly, if this is attractive to app developers. Creating 3D content isn’t inexpensive and that’s one of the hurdles that non-video content creators continue to face. For something like My3D to succeed, there need to be games and content that goes beyond advertisements for feature films. It’ll be interesting to see if Hasbro can pull this off. The $30 price point certainly puts My3D in the “why not?” purchase category. Now let’s just see if it can go beyond mere novelty.

The German organization doesn’t specify which two rival handsets were tested but recalls that, while a decrease in signal was observed when their antenna was held, the most it could record was a 25-percent loss. As with Consumer Reports, the company suggests a length of tape placed over the iPhone 4?s antenna bridge as a temporary solution until a free iPhone 4 case arrives. Stiftung Warentest’s results highlight another issue with smartphone signal strength, one that in fact Apple itself has identified: with no standardized way of displaying strength in bars, it’s hard for users to know whether what’s indicated on their screen means they’ll be able to place a call successfully or not. Sound and features The DC315 docking station does exactly what it says on the tin, it provides you with a combination of a charging station for your iPod or iPhone while allowing you to listen to your music either from the docked device or from digital FM radio. Featuring 2 x 4 RMS total output power with bass reflex speakers, giving you a nicely balanced sound with a warm bass touch. Overall experience The Philips DC315/05 docking station and alarm clock is among the more stylish in its class, and the performance is also up to the same levels as most other docking stations in the same category, proving a winning formula for Philips. Price point for the DC315 is not bad either at about $80 - buy from Amazon UK - making it competitively priced in its category. If you are after a nice little portable docking station that will fit well both in the bedroom or the kitchen for example, and that provides you with alarm clock functionality, then the DC315 is worth a second look. If however alarm functionality is of less importance, then you might also want to check out the Philips DS3000/05.

New laws to come into effect across Australia will see drivers having to put down their mobile phones whilst in the car. Although different states will have different implementation of the law, some states, including Victoria will see a marked change whereby phones need to be in a holder fixed in the car with calls being answered without touching the phone. Coming into effect on 9 November, fines will be $220 for repeat offenders.
